We believe Jesus is God in human form.
Born in an animal stable He went on to do extraordinary things; healing the sick, miracles, and raising the dead.

His enemies nailed him to a cross, but His death was not the end. Three days after He was killed His friends met Him fully alive. Overjoyed they spent their lives sharing His teaching. We read about their accounts in the Bible.

He can take the wrongdoing & troubles of every person who will believe in Him, forgives them and He promises them life forever after human death. He taught us to trust in a loving, merciful, heavenly Father and to pray to Him believing that He will answer. Today over 2 billion people are Christians. Like them, our experience of Jesus convinces us that knowing Jesus is the key to being fully alive.

He showed us that we are loved and should treat each other with kindness and generosity being hospitable to all.

Building History:
St Peter’s was constructed in 1905 by H.G Daikep for 560 pounds. It was designed by architect Frederick de Jersey Clere in Revival Gothic style. He designed over one hundred New Zealand churches. Ours is now recognised as a NZ Heritage building. It has a schist clad brick exterior that incorporates stone sourced from the local area. Unfortunately, the old hall which can be seen on full postcard (Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa) was destroyed in a fire on the night of New Years eve 1907. The church bell was procured in 1876 thanks to the enthusiastic work of the local ladies who raised 68 pounds by running cake stalls, selling veggies and a special bazaar which was supported by the whole community. The bell is still rung each week.

Havelock is a picturesque village of 500+ inhabitants and is not only “The Gateway” to the Pelorus Sound / Te Hoiere but is also known as the Green Shell Mussel Capital of the world! Havelock has a marina and a wonderful array of shops, businesses, accommodation and cafes.

St Peter’s sits in pride of place on a rise overlooking the village.
